West-Indian Whistling Duck nesting in Guadeloupe!!!
On Tuesday, February 26th, Anthony Levesque discovered a West-Indian Whistling-Duck with 9 ducklings at the Petite-Terre Nature Reserve where he works. while walking on a trail, he spotted the adult in the bushes and then heard the ducklings, which were very near the nest site. As you'll see in the short video Anthony took, they were very young, probably less than a day old. Anthony found the nest that evening; there were 2 unhatched eggs (infertile) remaining. When Anthony went back to the nest site the next day, the adult and ducklings were gone, no doubt headed for water/a feeding area (closest wetland about 500 m away).
